Statement by the University of Ottawa concerning offensive posters on campus

Over the last few days, University of Ottawa’s Human Rights Office and Protection Services have received complaints regarding a poster disseminating a degrading and offensive message with racist and homophobic content.

These posters were removed as soon as uOttawa was notified. Any poster left should be reported to Protection Services.

The University of Ottawa is committed to creating and maintaining a learning environment that promotes dignity and respect for all. As a bilingual and multicultural institution, the University values and encourages freedom of expression, freedom of religion and full equality.

We welcome and embrace open dialogue and the free exchange of ideas among all members of our diverse community. Protection Services and the Human Rights Office continue to monitor the situation.
