uOttawa science and engineering research gets $17M boost from NSERC

Posted on Thursday, June 23, 2016

As the hustle and bustle of students on campus quiets down for the summer, researchers in the faculties of Science and Engineering at the University of Ottawa are making a lot of noise after receiving a total of $17,845,356 in support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Of this funding, $14,826,856 is part the Discovery Grants and Discovery Grant Accelerator Supplements, which will support research in a wide range of areas, including the behaviour and cognition of bumblebees, human heat stress response, sexual selection and origin of species, ultrafast photonics, human computer interactions and designing concrete structures of tomorrow.

The remaining $3,018,500 will be distributed among doctoral and postdoctoral students as NSERC scholarships and fellowships, providing financial support to high-calibre students engaged in research in the natural sciences or engineering.
