Allan Rock, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Ottawa, and Robert Giroux, chair of the Board of Governors, wish to add their voices to those paying tribute to Madeleine Meilleur, attorney general and minister responsible for Francophone affairs, who announced yesterday that she will be leaving politics.
“Madeleine Meilleur is a proud University of Ottawa law alumna. On behalf of our entire university community, I would like to offer her my heartfelt thanks for her dedication and public service. All agree that she has been a fervent defender of the rights of Franco-Ontarians. Moreover, I would be remiss if I did not pay tribute to her as the first Francophone attorney general of Ontario,” said President Rock.
Board Chair Robert Giroux expressed his deep gratitude and admiration for Meilleur’s hard work. “As our representative at Queen’s Park, she has worked closely with us on many issues, to advance higher education in Ontario and the province’s Francophone community, and I thank her for all of this,” he said.
Rock and Giroux both stated that the University of Ottawa would take the opportunity to offer a more formal tribute to Meilleur in the near future.
