Students present their creations at Design Day / Des étudiants présentent leurs créations lors de la Journée du design en génie

The University of Ottawa invites members of the media to discover the creativity and ingenuity of the next generation of inventors, designers, entrepreneurs, and makers at Design Day on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Students from the Faculty of Engineering will showcase prototypes, present solutions to real world problems and compete for awards.

WHAT: uOttawa Design Day
WHEN: Wednesday, March 29, 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: SITE Atrium and Rotunda (1st floor), University of Ottawa (800 King Edward Avenue | Map)

Over 100 projects:

  • Robotics, including a steampunk-themed candy-dispensing robotic parrot
  • Hydroponics to grow food for refugees, schools and restaurants
  • Accessibility projects, including prosthetics and a fall-detection smartwatch app
  • Zero-carbon footprint homes, a supermileage vehicle, 3D printing, holograms and more!

Canada 150 Makerspace Challenge
As part of Design Day 2017, teams of students created steampunk-themed innovations in wearable technologies and robotics. Students will compete for a chance to win $1000 and showcase their creations at the National Science and Innovation Gala, one of the biggest Canada 150 events, at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum on May 17, 2017.
