MEDIA ADVISORY: Leading experts in stroke prevention & maternal and child health to speak at 2017 Gairdner Lecture Series

The University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine invites members of the media to hear two internationally renowned scientists and Gairdner Award laureates at the 2017 Gairdner Lecture Series. The Canada Gairdner Awards are recognized as among the most prestigious awards in biomedical science in the world.

  • Dr. Antoine Hakim (University of Ottawa, The Ottawa Hospital) 2017 Canada Gairdner Wightman Award laureate for outstanding leadership in medicine and medical science
    • Dr. Hakim, one of only two Gairdner laureates at the University of Ottawa, shares insights on the prevention of dementia and stroke.
       
  • Dr. Cesar Victora: (Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil) 2017 John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award laureate for his contribution to health in the developing world
    • Dr. Victora’s talk is titled Think Locally, Act Globally—How Research Carried Out in Pelotas Contributed to Global Policies.
