The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has named Steven J. Hoffman, a leading international lawyer and global health researcher at the University of Ottawa, as incoming Scientific Director of CIHR’s Institute of Population and Public Health, effective August 1, 2016.

Professor Hoffman is the Director of the Global Strategy Lab and an Associate Professor of Law, Medicine and Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa, in addition to holding appointments as an Associate Professor of Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics (Part-Time) at McMaster University, Adjunct Faculty with the McMaster Health Forum, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Global Health and Population at Harvard University.

“Continuing to host the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health at the University of Ottawa will keep our University’s long-standing contributions to population health research in the spotlight on the national and international stage. It’s a sign of the incredible bench strength of our population health researchers and the important role that our University has played in building this field over the past two decades. The buzz of activities and attention that the CIHR Institute brings to uOttawa will undoubtedly lead to new synergies and support for many related research and teaching programs at the University,” said Professor Hoffman.
