Here are some of the events taking place at the University of Ottawa from February 22 to 26, 2017.

Wednesday, February 22

How Technology Impacts Humans and Dictates our Civic Future
4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Common Law Section
Speaker:

  • Professor Latanya Sweeney, Data Privacy Lab, Harvard University.
  • Join Professor Sweeney, who is just back from serving as chief technology officer at the Federal Trade Commission and writing a book on the topic, for a session that will brainstorm how to engineer the way forward.
  • Technology designers are the new policymakers. The decisions they make when producing the latest gadgets and online innovations dictate the code by which we conduct our daily lives and govern our country.

uOttawa Innovates: The Voice Experience

Panelists:

  • Diana Inkpen, Professor, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
  • François Boisvert, Manager, Software Development, Alexa Amazon

Details:

  • Expert panel will discuss the future living with spoken dialogue systems like Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri and Google Home.

  • The Ticket Defence Program is hosting a conference brings together the collective insight of a variety of institutional actors directly and indirectly implicated in the regulatory justice system as it affects the homeless and street-involved community.
